Why Is My Drain Blocked?
In newer properties a blockage is usually seen when a system has been accidentally overused or overfilled to the point that the flow rate has not been adequate enough to take the contents down to the main system. In these cases, unblocking can be done both swiftly and effectively.
Another common reason for blockages we see is the disposal of unsuitable materials like sanitary products and baby wipes. These products are being flushed down the toilet on a daily basis and cause rapid blockages in systems as they do not break down like toilet paper.
Older Properties
In older properties, blockages can occur due to a build-up of silt, debris, grease, detergent and fat deposits as result of a displacement in the line being filled with these substances. A displacement in layman's terms is a gap in the pipework where they are no longer held together as first installed, so do no longer let wastewater travel efficiently into the main system.
These displacements can hold onto anything which isn't the viscosity of water which causes a gradual build up of substances until there is a complete blockage due to the pipes being fully compromised.
